In Project 1, with a
total group member of five students, we had to create a video presentation, a
verbal and a diagrammatic presentation along with chosen façade done by the
given architect, David Adjaye's Dirty House, from our lecturer.
Project 1: FAMOUS PEOPLE, FAMILIAR FACES
[DIAGRAMMATIC ABSTRACTION]
[To produce a complete
set of architectural drawing of the selected project on A3 size tracing paper.
Then required to investigate and formulate your findings into a set of 5 models
(6x6x6 cm). The models to be precise and informative to express the analysis of
the ideas hidden in the project assigned]
LEARNING OUTCOME:
Ability to identify
famous architects and their works
Understanding basic
architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames.
Ability to Diagram and
analyze architectural work of selected architect
Mock Up Models:
Whereas in Project 2A,
our course mates were all split to two different groups (sea or lake analysis) to
conduct a site analysis on Pantai Kerachut, Penang. I was in ‘Group B’ being in charge in the
lake analysis on Climate. After
conducting the analysis, by using three selected pictures taken from the park
in Penang to create and abstract model. After that, by working in pairs to
create a bay tower, for the local rangers on site, from the abstract model.
Project 2A: BAY WATCH
[Work with a volume in the form of a
solid cube 3 x 3 x 3 meter. It shall include the activities of observing,
resting, eating etc. in which furniture and equipment must fit and be
incorporated. This structure should correspond to the site that you have
chosen. Adequate access, circulation and fenestration are mandatory.]
LEARNING OUTCOME:
To generate form and
space through architectural conceptualisation, with the emphasis on exploring
the user requirement, simple spatial organization skills and site responding to
develop an architectural proposition.
Importance of using
the art of crafting and making: drawing(s) and model(s) as a critical design
tool as part of the design process.

Chosen Pictures from Park:
Concept Model:
The main idea in this bay watch is to create a structure that is multi-functional but still does not block the user’s view of the landscape in its surrounding. One is able to rest, lie, sit, slide, have picnic and produce a semi-private space.
Presentation Board:
Final Model:
For Project 2B, being
an individual assignment, we had to create a Retreat House for the rangers in
Project 2A. By making this retreat house linked to the Bay Watch in Project 2B.
Project 2B: PANTAI
KERACHUT RETREAT
[A full set of
architectural drawing, beautifully hand drawn onto 2 A1 size tracing/cartridge
paper and a model. Using appropriate scale and the model should be made in the
same scale beautifully presented on an A3 size MDF board.]
LEARNING OUTCOME:
Introduce the notion
of architectural space making through the design of a user specific
architectural scheme.
Explores the relationship
between architectural t tectonics, function and space in architecture.
Linking both the bay
watch and the retreat house by placing the retreat house in front of the bay
watch. As the main idea for the bay watch was to allow the user to enjoy the
landscape without any blockage, thus using the same idea by avoiding all the
construction of a wall and still create a parting between private and public area
for the ranger. Through using staircase to assembly a lower space to function
as a barrier between spaces.
