Architectural Design Studio 3

Project One:

a. PRECEDENT STUDIES: Analyzing spatial poetics & spatial typologies in architecture
Introducing different spatial typologies in architecture, and how they inform spatial use and experience through precedent studies. By analyzing and comparing 2 selected architectural precedents. The analysis of the design approaches will inform the preceding design projects for the remaining semester.

Linear Case Study:

Concentric Case Study:

b. EXPLORING SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES AND POETICS: JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES
Part b explores spatial typologies and poetics through the design of a simple space within a hypothetical site, based on interpretation of a text provided by the lecturers. By choosing the poem 'Death' by Kahlil Gibran, we were to create two different spatial typologies; one linear and one concentric.

Project Two:

a.DISCOVERING THE SITE & ITS GENIUS LOCI
This being a group project where the main aim of Project 2a is to identify and analyze the site context for design exploration. In groups, carry out a thorough research and site analysis at the given site; Labrador Park, Singapore. Chosen Site; Site A, the only rocky sea-cliff on the main island of Singapore.

b. SITE RESPONSE AND DESIGN CONCEPT
This being an individual project, we were assigned to develop a strong, individual design concept grounded in a personal site response derived from the information gathered in groups via Assignment 2a. With the concept of  'War is a Beautiful Imperfection.'

Project Three: Designing A Visitor Interpretive Centre

For this individual project, we were to explore architectural response within the context of the site and programmatic requirements of interpretive centre. Ensuring that it is build-able. With only a total square meter of 400.

Building Science 1

Project One
In a group of six members, we were assigned to choose a building that best features a passive design strategy for tropical climate, one building in Kuala Lumpur and one building in Singapore. Selection is based on the the fact, buildings selected in Kuala Lumpur, it should be a certified may other be Platinum, Gold, Silver and 2 and selected building in Singapore should be certified and awarded Platinum, Gold, or Sliver by the Green Mark System. A thorough research on the passive design strategies, the principles and details needed for these passive design strategies to perform best in tropical climate and to achieve thermal comfort in this building/space.

Chosen Buildings:
Lot 2C2 by Jafri Merican Architect
