Architecture Design Studio 4

For Project One, we were paired in groups to create a Green Info Shelter. Locating at a site selected in Taylor Lakeside Campus. This assignment explores the environmental poetics of a structure that respond to the basic natural context such as the sun, wind, heat, cold, energy issue, and the existing context.

In Project Two, we were brought to Belum Rainforest Resort, Pulau Banding Resort. Where we were to conduct a site analysis together with our course mates and construct a site model of the resort to the scale of 1:200.

Given Site

With the given site, we assigned to design a Nature Appreciation Center, individually. Encouraging us to explores design solutions that harness environmental qualities and conditions for human and environment sustainability through a project with a specific community of users.

Architecture Technique

For our Project One, we were required to research and establish an understanding of a theme that will be used to analyse a selected building. The theme selected by me is Poseidon, the Greek God.

In Project 2, we were ask to choose a building to analyse, using diagrams as a method of having a better understanding of the building chosen in terms of its conception and exploration of key issues or programmatic criteria during the design development process. The building chosen by me is M.H. De Young Museum in San Francisco. Designed by Herzog & De Meuron.

Whereas in Project 3, we were to combine both project one and two and reconstruct a conceptual architectural model which conveys an interpretation of the building in a creative and communicative manner.

Architectural Design Studio 3

Project One:

a. PRECEDENT STUDIES: Analyzing spatial poetics & spatial typologies in architecture
Introducing different spatial typologies in architecture, and how they inform spatial use and experience through precedent studies. By analyzing and comparing 2 selected architectural precedents. The analysis of the design approaches will inform the preceding design projects for the remaining semester.

Linear Case Study:

Concentric Case Study:

b. EXPLORING SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES AND POETICS: JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES
Part b explores spatial typologies and poetics through the design of a simple space within a hypothetical site, based on interpretation of a text provided by the lecturers. By choosing the poem 'Death' by Kahlil Gibran, we were to create two different spatial typologies; one linear and one concentric.

Project Two:

a.DISCOVERING THE SITE & ITS GENIUS LOCI
This being a group project where the main aim of Project 2a is to identify and analyze the site context for design exploration. In groups, carry out a thorough research and site analysis at the given site; Labrador Park, Singapore. Chosen Site; Site A, the only rocky sea-cliff on the main island of Singapore.

b. SITE RESPONSE AND DESIGN CONCEPT
This being an individual project, we were assigned to develop a strong, individual design concept grounded in a personal site response derived from the information gathered in groups via Assignment 2a. With the concept of  'War is a Beautiful Imperfection.'

Project Three: Designing A Visitor Interpretive Centre

For this individual project, we were to explore architectural response within the context of the site and programmatic requirements of interpretive centre. Ensuring that it is build-able. With only a total square meter of 400.
